[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I took this photo early in the morning. When I opened my hotelroomdoor at about 8 A.M. I saw this red-crowned woodpecker sitting in the mangotree. He was eating a mango. The mangotree is very popular among Tobagan birds. On that same spot I had seen several Blue-gray tanagers and Palm tanagers.
The Red-crowned is one of the few common birds of Tobago that is not found in Trinidad.
It is mainly found at lower levels amidst open country with a variety of trees, including cocnut palms. It seems quite at home in suburban areas and gardens. The upperparts and wings are barred black and white, with a white rump that shows prominently in flight; the underparts are olive brown, while the crown and nape are more or less red, especially in male birds. The call notes include a loud, rattling trill, often repeated.
This noisy and very sociable species lives mainly on insects, dug out of crevices, but also taken berries and is known to feed on sugar water at feeding tables. It drums loudly during breeding season, often gaining extra noise from drumming on galvanised roofs. Both parents share nesting duties, often making their nest in dead coconut palms or even telephone poles.

Hi Zeno,
Greatly capturing this pretty little bird, while eating a mango, and nicely composed. Sharp and clear. Superb shot.

Hi Zeno,
This looks very good. Nice color saturation and sharp detail. It appears that he is not sure about you watching him. Nice shot.

Nice shot of this cool bird, Zeno!
You lost some details on the left side of the head, easy to fix in Photoshop.
