[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This is another bird that I saw in the garden of the Arnos Vale hotel. The eared dove is fairly common in the more open areas, especially on Tobago. It is probably a partial migrant, for numbers seem to increase during the wet season, when it may be seen in small flocks. It is a medium sized pigeon, generally greyish brown with conspicious black spots on the wings coverts; it also has black markings on the side of the head, with an iridescent violet patch beside its ears. Although the sexes are roughly similar, the female is duller on the whole. Its call is a typical pigeon's cooing.
Like many of this family, this dove feeds on the ground mainly on seeds.
It breeds in most months of the year, constructing a small nest of twigs which is placed usually quite low in a tree, often a mangrove at a swamp edge. The two white eggs are incubated by both parents and the time for incubation and fledging together is little more than three weeks.

Talented bird photographer!
Well done.

Hi Zeno,
This is a great dove portrait! As they are very common here, it is not a reflex for me to photograph them but I understand that it must not be that common for the rest of the world. Good details with excellent colors and composition. Well done again :)

Hello Zeno,
Another sharp bird portrait. You have captured this dove in an interesting pose and there is a fine background that suggests a garden.
TFS this and the info.
Regards, Ivan
