While out at night in the rain forest:
I found this noisy Mexican Treefrog (Smilisca baudinii, Rana de árbol mexicana, Mexikanischer Baumfrosch. Hylidae) in the second-growth forest near the Estación Biológica La Selva. Since it was raining, the small camera with an built-in flash had to do.
This frog species occurs from Texas to Mexico, Belize, Guatemala, Honduras, Salvador, Nicaragua and to Costa Rica. I was intrigued by the resemblance in habit to our palaearctic species in Europe and Asia. There are some organisms on Earth whose adaptation to an ever present environment may be dead-end but successful (the Crocodyles come to mind).
