First of all, let me please wish you all a belated Happy New Year! and only the best in 2010!!!

I'm back from my holiday in Austria and i'll be returning to TN soon, after i finish unpacking and sorting out some photos. The trip was very nice, the places there are beautiful and the air is crisp and fresh :)

Sadly though, they don't offer any breaks for us photographers...all the cabins that take the skiers up and down stop working around 4-4.30 PM so i didn't manage to take any sunset photos from high altitudes at all :(( I really would have liked to find one that keeps working later in the evening...

Anyway, that aside, the views from up are great. This photo here was taken at over 2600m, on the Cimaross peak near the town of Matrei.
This is the latest i could stay up there since i don't ski and i had to catch the last ride back down.

Hope you'll like it and thanks for visiting.

Hello Horia

Glad to hear you had such a good time - sorry you were unable to get the sunset you wanted. A very good composition with nice exposure and lovely cirrus clouds.

Hallo Horia
How beautiful it is to look at these snow covered mountains. It almost looks as if a packet of icing sugar was dropped out of the sky, which coated the mountains in a pure white blanket. The lovely blue sky in contrast playing hide and seek between the white clouds is in wonderful contrast with one another. Thanks for sharing this lovely scenery. Best regards.

Hi mate,

aww thats a real shame about the sunset/sunrises! what a nightmare! However, don't be too hard on yourself, as you still came away with a great shot. The ridge leads the eye prefectly into that multiple line up of peaks. and the low band of cloud adds some important feeling of weather conditions too - a very happy new year to you too my friend, can't wait to see more :o)
Paul

Hi Horia,
Well, my more belated Happy New Year wishes to you too!
It sounds good your holidays' time, although it seems that we're more on the quest for the light than for the resting time.
It's so beauty and serene this snowy peaks you bring us today, I like specially the subtle forms of the clouds that made of that sky the perfect complement for the photo.
Congratulations, regards and thanks so much for share it.
JM

Dear Horia
A beautiful view of the peaks in the last rays of the winter sun - the valley already in the shadow - and a layer of clouds sinking down.

I like very much the thick white frame, emphasising the snow!

So did you have to catch the last Seilbahn to get back to Matrei?

Back home, do you have as much snow as they show on the weather-news for Europe?

Best wishes for 2010
Greetings from South Africa
Ingrid

Hello Horia,
A belated happy 2010 to you too!
A superb Austrian mountainscape with nice use of light on the snow covered tops against a fine winter sky. The valleys contrast with their darkness but not too dark to lose details and the composition with its FG and BG perspective is great.
Reminds me of the alpine skiing of my youth! Thanks and all the best to you my friend,
Ivan

Hi Horia,
It never crossed my mind that in these locations the skiers decided the time of going up and down a mountain. I guess other people have nothing to say. But luckely during winter the sun stays low for a while and good light last longer. As you are showing in the wonderful photo. The hint of warmth on the mountain slope is wonderful and adds a cozy feel to the photo. The composition is wel chozen with the rim of the mountain guiding the eye to the peaks in the distance. The untouched virgin snow gives a real wild feel. I am very happy for you that you had such a wonderful cloud cover. Without it the photo would not be so spectacular.
TFS,
Niek
