Artogeia napi (Linnaeus, 1758),
male

Green veined White
Rapsweißling
Klein geadert witje
Rapsfjäril
Piéride du Navet
Blanca verdinnervada
Navoncella

Wingspan: 40 – 45mm

Family: Pieridae (Whites)

That picture, taken early in the year, shows last year's vegetation confronted with one of the first butterflies of the new Spring, a male of the quick and restless Green Veined White.

Distribution: Europa with the exception of Northern Scandinavia. Temperate Asia to Japan, from the lowlands up to 2000m above sea level. Common and wide spread. Butterflies can be seen from March to October in two or more generations. The species shows sexual dimorphism: Females show broad dark scaled veins on the fore wings and two additional dark spots. Christopher Jonko (TN: Christopher_PL) has contributed a perfect picture of a female of the same species Artogeia napi (Pieris napi) a few days ago:

Beautiful shot, lovely contrast, good details and clarity. I like the mixture of the textures and tones. I would have personally trimmed a bit on the bottom to get rid of the OOF leave and give a bit more depth.
Thanks for sahring Peter, nice to meet you again :)

Dear Peter, it's not only the 'white' which is attractive: also the structure and the colour of the rotting leafs is interesting. Your picture shows the contrast of new fresh spring life and past life terminated in last autumn. Good composition, as presented from nature and recognized by you.
Peter

Wow! Peter it is perfect my friend! I like it a lot really. Great brown tones on the leaves are striking and they are so cool as a bg! Focusing and details on the butterfly are amazing. What a pity that right wing not opened enough, but that's not important so much. Great shot here and thank you!

Great butterfly Peter.
Excellent colors and details with good composition.
TFS!!!!

Hi Peter,
This Green Veined White really stands out against the brown dried up leaf. Beautiful quality light in this shot. The colors are remarkable, and detail is very sharp. This looks excellent.

Hi Peter
May I quote a line from your notes that really fascinated me: "That picture, taken early in the year, shows last year's vegetation confronted with one of the first butterflies of the new Spring". Wow, what a mouth full and so well said. It is a mixture of past, present and future incorporated within.
Your photo is quite excellent as well. I am impressed with your ability to capture these white or slightly coloured butterflies with such immaculate exposure. The colours are stunning and the details are amazing.
Very well done and TFS.
