When threatened, the Ring-tailed Lemur has been known to strike out with its short nails in a behavior termed 'jump fighting'. This action is extremely rare outside of the breeding season when tensions are high and competition for access to mates is intense. Only one attack on a human by a Ring-tailed Lemur has ever been documented in America. The event happened at the Minnesota Zoo in Apple Valley, Minnesota after a small boy entered the Ring-tailed Lemur exhibit while on a school field trip and threw a pebble at the Lemur. The boy was scratched and bitten, and taken to hospital. The Ring-tailed Lemur that attacked was euthanized later that day.

Hi Annick,
Outstanding shot and you have freezed the action perfectly. Those eyes are just gorgeous and the long tail is amazingly poised. Very sharp image and neat focus with the BG highlighting the subject well. Excellent low POV to portray this scene and very nicely composed. Kudos.

Hi Annick.
we have a small colony of these guys at a primate rescue centre near where i live. I was told that one of the theories as to why they have these vividly marked tails is that they may use them as a type of communication with each other to signal such things as 'food here' or 'danger!' A kind of Lemur semaphor.
Anyway, the moment you've caught this one is great, this is quite an intimidating pose. Excellent low POV and facial expression, with perfect DOF. I like this alot.

Hello Annick,

This is a very good composition of this rare animal! I love the way you placed the Lemur into one hotspot and used its tail as a guiding line to lead the eyes to the subject. Very interesting! The background is so perfect that one can't even tell the picture was taken in a ZOO. I like the way you enhanced perspective by overlapping fore-, middle- and background. The black and white fur must have been difficult to expose especially in the strong sunlight but you did well. The details look great and the expression in the face of the lemur is also great. Very well done! Thanks!

With Friendly Regards,

wow it's a superb shot, great blur green background and nice expression of the object, really seems natural for me eventhough the notes said it was taken in Minnesaota zoo, TFS

Hello Annick,
What an amazing photo of this Lemur. Lemurs are very funny animals. I've seen them in Madagascar, unfortunately before the digital period. This photo is perfect in sharpness and pose of the animal. Very good POV, BG and composition.

Hello Annick,
That tail makes a great eye catcher!
Dynamic, those eyes tell the story of determination...
Great focus on the action!

Gorgeous shot of this animal. They should have sent the boy to a boot camp, instead of killing an animal that was attacked...
People are irrational at times. Love the shot! Cheers, Klaus

I don't get it...? Why kill the lemur? That stinks.

I like that you got him and the whole of his fantastic tail. Nice focus on the eyes...

Evelynn : )

Hi great timing
very good focus and colours
I think it´s very difficult to take a picture at this moment when the animal is in attack position
very well done
