Hi Niek,
good to see you're still alive and not completely overwhelmed by work! i know the feeling...
Anyway, another great shot to go with your last one.
Very nice composition with the fungi in the BG slightly higher, your efforts to create the effect you wanted using the right DOF have worked very well. Also a great job on the exposure, which was probably quite difficult. The setting in Autmnal leaves is great too. Great work, hope you're workload lightens sooner rather than later..

What is really special about this photo to me is that the subjects are undisturbed and amongst the leaf litter that has fallen..maybe you arranged some colourful leaves in the fg and if you did this works perfectly..but the subject is left untouched...perfect work.

Zo te lezen een aardige drukke tijd achter de boeg en misschien ook wel in het vooruitzicht. Maar laat je daarvan niet weerhouden de natuur bij tijd en wijlen met een bezoek te vereren en ons van je mooie foto's te laten genieten. Ik vind dit een weloverwogen uitgekiende compositie. Als je naar de kleurschakeringen kijkt, komt dat toch mooi over. Het witcreme van de paddestoelen, daarom heen de bladeren in de herfstkleuren. Een beter onderwerp kan je toch haast niet hebben. De POV, BG en DOF zijn gewoon goed. Al heb ik een beetje twijfels over de paddestoelen v.w.b.t. de focus. Je maakt de foto compleet met een van die mooie frames. Groeten, sterkte en tot TFS BOB

Hi Niek

As i said before, sorry to hear work is keeping you from your daily pleasures...
Well, from how i've come to know you, i'd say you made the best of that trip in Belgium. Family does come first, but if, aside, you got the chance to take a small walk anywhere and see something nice, i know you would not miss the opportunity.
This is a nice mushroom photo, but perhaps not your best in terms of the mushroom itself. Not that it's not sharp or exposed well, but it lacks that certain "je ne sais quoi" that you usually put in your pictures. Please don't get me wrong...i'm not trying to get too critical here, i just know you like an honest opinion :)
Now that aside, i can't help admiring the diversity in the colors of the fallen leaves around the two fungi.
The DOF is also well managed and the second mushroom being blurred, it gives a nice sense of depth to the composition - which itself is very well thought of, with the leaf from the left side occupying exactly 1/3 of the frame and the "main" mushroom placed at the opposite thrid of the scene.
Parhaps i should try and cheer you up in these days of hard and long work, but rather than bluffing with words, i preferr to wait for your next beautiful shot (ehrnever it may come) and tell you "this is what i've been waiting for to inspire me" :) Ok?

Great capture Niek, I wonder is this the mushroom season Id love to see a few of these around the forest. Love your low POV good contrast yet retaining detail in the shaded areas. Well done.

Hi Niek,
Nicely composed shot.
The forest floor colors and textures add so much to the image.
Personally I think I would prefer a greater DOF to include the other mushroom and BG leaves. It would be interesting to compare the 2 like a WS on DOF.

We all do what we can do, and no one expects more. I always enjoy your intimate shots Niek. I think even more than the mushrooms, I like the leaves. I would have liked to see even more of them as the colors and textures are so nice. I had planned to post a mushroom shot too, just for fun. Then for some baffling reason, my entire folder of images I had prepared for TN ... disappeared... vanished... into thin air! I have never had such a thing happen in over 30 years of owning Macs. I am completely baffled and it is completely gone! I still have the originals... but "phooey! : P

If one wanted to get more of this scene in focus... how would one do it?

Hi Niek,

nobody realized that your photo shows Clitocybe nebularis (Batsch 1789) Quélet 1857 instead of Russula cyanoxantha (Schaeffer 1774) Fries 1863, very very different.

Hi Niek,
Although Your first ID specification wasn't correct, this is a marvellous photo, showing the grey fungi and the colorful leafs very well and making an awesome contrast between them. Good focus.
A short advice to the end: if You do fungi shots, "gardening" (=cleaning the scene from unfocused leafs or/and grass-blades) is as important as doing the photo itself.
