The Common Spotted Orchid (Dactylorhiza fuchsii) is a commonly occurring species of European orchid. It is widely variable in colour and height, ranging from 5 to 60 cm in height. The leaves are usually, but not always, spotted. The flowers are produced in dense spikes in the latter half of the summer, and vary enormously in colour from pure white to deep lilac-pink. The tubers of this species and other so-called dactylorchids are characteristically divided into finger-like lobes. The lower lip of the flower is divided into three lobes and is covered by a pattern of dots and lines which is also very variable. The lip of this species has an exaggerated central tooth.
Habitat: damp pasture, grassland, dune slacks, on calcareous soils.
Flowering time: June-August.
The Common Spotted Orchid is a protected plant in some countries and it is protected by the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES).

Photo taken on the Natural Reserve of the "Montagne St Pierre" in Lanaye (municipality of Visé), near the river Meuse.
---------------------

Hi Catherine, very good iamge, the colours are natural and well defined, the flowers have a beautiful shape to them. great dof and an excellent composition.

Bonsoir Catherine,

A beautiful shot of this Common Spotted Orchid. Beautiful colours, razorsharp and a great compsosition. It´s look like a painting. And that´s a compliment. POV, DOF and BG are good. Interesting notes. One (little) point of critiques is that there is something happend with the focussing or editing just above the two lowest flowers. Anyway thanks for sharing this beautiful plant. Have a nice evening and AU REVOIR et TFS BOB

Bonsoir Catherine,

Mariki
