With its golden body, it is one of the most beautiful Syrphid. It is not a common species. New in my collection of Hoverflies of Belgium.

Ferdinandea cuprea Scopoli, 1763 ♀
Family : Syrphidae
Common names : Syrphide dorée [Fr], Gemeine Goldschwebfliege [De]

This species is about 9-13mm length. It can be distinguished by the brown-lined crossvein in the wings and shiny gold green, hairy abdomen. It has also on the mesonotum four light grey stripes. The eyes are covered with dense bright hair.
It flies in two generations from about May to August.
It is found in woodland. The larvae live on wounded trees, in tree holes, humus and on decaying wood.
Distribution: Europe, North Africa, Siberia, Asia until Japan.

Hello Catherine
what a great macro shot with superb colors and great sharp details. light using, POV/DOF and composition wonderful as like frame. I used for a long time 40D and 100mm of Canon. But yours quality great. I think single difference on equipment was using of a tripod. Is it is a professional tripod?
great work indeed. thanks for sharing, have a good night

Fine colours.

Hello Catherine,
Congratulations on this superb macro of this species of Hoverfly, Ferdinandea cuprea, that is found in Sweden but one I have yet to see.
The POV is great, taken with fine sharpness, colours and DOF and excellent contrast with the leaf BG.
Well done my friend,
Thanks and Cheers,
Ivan

Ciao Catherine, really a beauitiful hoverly, excellent sharpness and fine details, good natural colors, very well done my friend, ciao Silvio

Hi Catherine,
thanks for commenting my Ferdinandea, this gives me the occasion to discover your presentation of the same species and to realize that you have a truly important collection of Syrphids in your "book". You may have noticed that many of your Syrphid shots got a while ago into my theme "Syrphids of Europe", part 1 or 2. I added the nice Ferdinandea portrait gladly, yours is particularly helpful for ID purposes.
Have a nice day, Dietrich

Beautiful!

You manage to select you objects in a way that give a "clean" picture with few distractions. The details and colors of the fly are outstanding.

Well done!
