Okay, so this is my contribution to the near misses. One that I'd dearly have loved to get right. The photo was taken during the breeding season last year - notice his black bill, he's in peak breeding condition. He was sitting on the roof of a carport just a few meters from a row of trees where several pairs of house sparrows had or were building nests. This photo shown on TE was taken in the same area. This little chappie was preparing to take off from the roof with his contribution to the nestbuilding business, he was on the edge of the roof, and I had him in the viewfinder - in focus, I swear ;-)) - when suddenly he decided to take off. I pressed the shutter just a fraction of a second too late, and this is the result.
Enjoy ;-))
For more info on House sparrows see this post.

Great shot Bente! I think everyone has at least a few of these where you sit back after the shot & wish the focus Gods had been merciful..just this time! Anyway, it's a great title with a great moral message. Think Big! That way when you fall a little short you won't have so far to go!! ;-)

Except of the BG this is a very nice shot, but focus a bit soft.

Welcome to the real world. I know all about these happenings. My videocam is very slow so many times I take what I think is a perfect sj\hot and get nothing because the subject is already gone when the shot goes off.
Just for sharing brave one. 5 points

Hi Bente, this made me laugh! Reminds me of my dog trying to carry big sticks, of course my dog doesn't have wings. Or a beak. Excellent work, well captured.

WOW! Samson here is bringing down the house! :) Interesting shot, Bente. If only...

Wishes were fishes we could feed the world.

I like this "missed" series.

Hi Bente
A very good Just Missed, but actually you did get him, but you needed flash ger to help nail him. The overall impat is still nice, though darkish and the carport roof is a bit of a pain. But don'e dispair, it is nearly summer again.

But you freezed him very well, Bente. If I had took this one last May, I would have posted it thinking I had caught a masterpiece! Since then I learnt that a masterpiece is very rare, even on TN.
Anyway, I really think that the road is the goal and that the Luck smiles to the audacious and to the persevering people.
Thanks a lot.

Yes, a big load. You didn´t missed it vey much, I think the blur effect is because of the movement, not of the focus. Nice "near miss".

Muito boas suas fotos. Macros ótimas.
Só está faltando um quadrado (dourado) em suas pontuações do Workshop. Vamo ajudar.
Um abraço!

You are driving these little ones too hard, making them cary loggs :)

Im glad to see that I'm not the only one with near (and not so near) miss's

Thanks for sharing

I think this is still a pretty good miss. Mine are usually so bad I would be embarrassed to post them.

I clearly see what you mean about the missing focus Bente but IMO you can be proud of getting the picture because they move so fast. This little chap must be as strong as a big Sikorsky carying this big weight away. Great capture.
