The flower

Nuphar lutea, (L.) Sm.

Yellow water lily, photographed at the source of Lez at Prades le Lez.

It is an aquatic plant particularly welcome because of its many environmental services: water treatment, oxygen, food source for aquatic wildlife, shelter for part of this fauna, and also approval for our eyes.

Source of reflection for the poet Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, who, by studying its flowers, was one of the first to understand the relationship of floral parts, by progressive differentiation into sepals, petals, stamens, carpel and pistil.

Poet, but also a man of science, particularly fascinated by the perspective he would not fail to notice the two optical phenomena (reflection and refraction in the water) that can be noted in this photograph.

The picture

Photography captured around noon. The subject is relatively stationary and the camera was set to aperture priority. The lily was placed under the canopy of trees around the middle of the pond. So I used the telephoto lens of 300 millimeters and open to f/14, for a sufficient depth of field. With a sensitivity equivalent to ISO-200, the shutter speed was 1 / 6 (made possible by the tripod and remote shutter release).

Hola Philippe,

Anne

Reflections are amazing, brilliant artistic photograph. Not sharp enough for me, but here artistic 'feel' is more important.

Bonjour Philippe,
