English name : Dance fly – Scientific name : Empis livida - Order : Diptera
Description : Empidid flies are carnivorous, feeding on other insects, but they consume flower nectar as you can see on this photo.
I think that the flower is a Silene latifolia, family of Caryophyllaceae.
Photo info : taken in a clearing. Cloudy, little wind, the storm arrived one minute after... I cropped at 50% to see better the insect, brightness +8%, resize, sharpness and frame in 800x600 for TN...
Technique : FUJIFILM FinePix S6500 - Mode P - Auto focus - Aperture f3.8 - Shutter speed 1/340s - Iso 100 - White balance auto - Flash not fired - focal 100mm equiv. - File JPG fine - Handheld.
Note : my old softawre Micrografx Picture 8 kills the Exif info, then I read the data with Exif-Reader in the original file but for TN post I can not send automaticaly...

Hi Christian,
Beautiful! This is fantastic. Absolutely perfect in everyway. Great DOF shows all flower and center stage subject crystal clear. :)

salut Christian,
splendide image, avec un sujet pourtant centré. Mais ici il y a un équilibre avec l'arrière plan gauche et le duo fleur/insect. La transparence des ailes et la netteté sont super.

Hi Christian

There seems to be far too many flies on this planet and here you come and introduce me to yet another new & unknown species and what an interesting one at that. What a remarkable snozzle this guy has.

I like this composition and although the flower is right in the centre of the shot you very creatively balanced it out nicely with the developing bud on the side. That dark green BG is perfectly complimentary to the snow white flower harbouring the fly. The little insect shows remarkable details and colours (especially on those golden coloured transparent wings). The exposure was spot-on as is evident by the extraordinary contrasts on the white flower.

Excellent work and TFS.

I can't remember to have seen this one before.
Clear picture, with great composition and very good details.
I like very much the neat aspect of the whites and the great contrast the add to the photo.
Thanks very much, MF, hope you follow well.
Regards, Felipe.

Bonjour Christian,

Hello Christian,
A wonderful capture, where the two subjects both comes out very well!
The moment is well captured as we can enjoy the fly at work...
Sharp fine details in this well composed presentation!

:-) OK-

Hallo Christian
I really like this image. What a delightful and sunny view. The details of both the flower and the fly are just stunning and I cannot say one is better than the other. The combination of colours of both the fly and the flower is a lovely combination and creates a most appealing and bright sight. I like the way you fit the flower in the frame, makes the details more closely to observe and appreciate. I like the fine detail of the wings that is so cleary shown. Thanks for sharing.
Kind regards
