[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
The Purple Heron (Ardea purpurea) is a wading bird in the heron family Ardeidae, breeding in Africa, central and southern Europe, and southern and eastern Asia. The European populations are migratory, wintering in tropical Africa; the more northerly Asian populations also migrate further south within Asia. It is a rare but regular wanderer north of its breeding range.

It is a large bird, 80-90 cm tall, with a 120-150 cm wingspan, but slender for its size, weighing only 0.5-1.3 kg. It is somewhat smaller than the Grey Heron, from which it can be distinguishes by its darker reddish-brown plumage, and, in adults, darker grey back. It has a narrower yellow bill, which is brighter in breeding adults.

Hi Tom. good shot of the Heron. What an unusual colour to the neck. you have captured the detail and colours well. with a Nice pose. good POD/DOF. well done TFS. good notes too.

Bonsoir Tom,
A very good capture of this purple heron!
I like so much the vivid tones caught on its neck, and the point of light you have there precisely.
Like also the extended pose along the diagonal.
Felicitacions et merci du partager.
Mes amities,

Hi Tom,
very nice shot of this beautiful bird from famous Camargue. POV and DOF very well. Very nice pose with nice details, colors. TFS
well done

Very nice bird image Tom.
I like the traditional pose of this beutiful purple heron waiting for a snatch.
It looks like the head and bill of the heron are different lighted than the rest of the body and due to that a little, not really much, over exposed.
Colors are very nice and the composition excellent, but in my opinion the image gould use a little more sharpness.
Nevertheless avery nice one.
Thanks for sharing.
Best wishes,

Hi Tom,marvellous picture of this heron, verry good shot, cheer

Hi Tom,
Nice capture of this Purple Heron with good colors, POV and composition. TFS
Best wishes,

Great! Love seeing herons and egrets, that we don't find here in the states. Indeed - it looks very much like our Great Blue Heron, aside from the purple in the neck area. Well done! Cheers, Klaus

Hello Tom,
Colourful wader you caught here...
I think he is a bit hungry.

Hello Tom, very good image of the Heron. Sharp, good and good exposure. Maybe a bit OE under the eye but a very good shot.

Hi Tom
Great shot, Nice colors and details. Well composed, too. I really like the contrast of the bird's colors against the green background. Well done. I have never seen a Purple Heron so thanks for sharing.
