Another fungi, not as beautiful as the previous one, but still I liked his shape. I have absolutely no idea of its name (my fungi book didn't help) so it would be nice if someone here on TN could tell me. It was very small, 3 cm approximately, black, and it had the consistency of jelly - weird to touch. It didn't smell strong at all. It was growing very close to the place where I found me previous fungi, in a forest of trees with leaves (but I don't remember which species exactly). Maybe this will help ID, maybe not - anyways, the fungi is also beautiful without a name, don't you think ? :-)

Thanks to Ivan (Argus) and Laszlo (Hormon Manyer), I could put a name to this beautiful fungus : Bulgaria inquinans, a fungus from the family Bulgariaceae. It grows on branches and bark of dead Oak and European Beech. The species can be found from October to March.

Writing this from a friend's computer in my native district in the Himalayas, Valerie. I'm in town for a couple of days and will go back to my village on the 23rd.
Couldn't resist looking at the gallery and found your latest picture. It is is an interesting shiny black/deep blue fungus growing on the branch of a living tree.
The image is well composed against a pleasing BG and shows the features and colours of this subject well.
I'm doing a lot of landscapes of snow-covered mountains these days and will post them when I return to New Delhi in the first week of March.
Thanks and bye till then.
Ram

Hello Valérie,
A fine capture of a black fungus growing on dead softwood. The POV and sharpness against an OOF natural BG should enable an expert ID it. Though I'm no expert I suggest that it might be Bulgária inquinans.
Thanks for sharing this fine image,
Have a good weekend,
Ivan

Hi Val,
Quickly, Bulgaria inquinans, as Ivan ('Argus') correctly said. Great focus and bg, congrats. Have a nice weekend, László

Hallo Valerie
I do not know anything about this subject, but I must say this is rather spectacular. Very interesting looking and certainly an eye-catcher. The contrast between the colour of the fungi and neutral background is realy special. I like what I see.Lightning and sharpness is a great A+.
Thanks for sharing.

Hi Valerie.
I do not agree with you. Pictured fungi is very nice and I have not seen this species. You managed to reflects its colouration, shapes and texture perfectly. Tree branch is wonderful too and represented also nicely. I also like pleasant and tender BG. It supplements the main subject very well. And one of the key points of the image its highest quality. Well done and TFS.
Alexei.

Hello Valerie,
It is a delight to be back in your gallery. And i chose this one to have a better look and make my comments since this reminded me of another post of similar nature in Gert's(Gert Passen)gallery. Lazlo and Ivan identified it with another name and Gert mentions another...!!!I instinctly remembered it since he(Gert) had called it the Black Witch's Butter ...what an apt name looking at its grey colour and looks of a melted butter!!!!I took fancy to it...i thought it was amusing and cute..On looking at both the pictures side by side i think they are perhaps different ..these experts know better!

I like the capture you make here with fine details. The natural surroundings of the wet mossy branch add to the composition. The texture of the fungi is well picked up as much as its colour.I enjoyed looking at this one and thank you also for reminding me of Black Witch's Butter (a name i just like saying !!!)(chuckle!!)

TFS and cheers
Silpa
