I saw this Argynnis paphia? (in Dutch Keizersmantel) in France. Silver-washed Fritillary.

This is a large and powerful butterfly and a pleasure to watch in flight. I wasn't sure whether it was the legs hanging down or a combined effect with the abdomen but it really looks like there's an undercarriage engaged when it comes in to land!! The species can be observed in sunny clearings in densely wooded areas and nectars avidly on bramble and hemp agrimony. Buddleia is popular in nearby gardens. The photographed specimens were utterly indifferent to my presence but getting pictures wasn't easy as they were moving about quite a lot on the flower heads.

Good evening Hendrik, what a beautiful photo you have posted tonight. It's very well composed, and to me looks much like a pastel painting. Is that a spider on the flower just under the wing on the left? Very nicely shown, thank you.
IMO, I would have preferred the frame to be half the size as I think it is too dark and heavy for such a gentle and pretty photo.
Janice :)

Hendrik, thatīs a very fine macro shot. Excellent details and good tones of colour. A great capture, very well done.

This is a nice close-up, Hendrik.
I like the light and the colours.
Good details and nice composition.
Well done.
