THE HUMBOLDT PINGUIN:
The Humboldt Penguin is a South American penguin, which breeds in coastal Peru and Chile. The penguin is named after the cold water current it swims in, which itself is named after Alexander von Humboldt, an explorer. Due to a declining population caused by over-fishing, climate change, habitat destruction, and ocean acidification, the current status of the Humboldt penguin is threatened. The current population is estimated at between 3,300 and 12,000.
THE SHOT:
I was happily surprised with this shot. The odds were against me. The penguins jumped only for a short while. My camera isn't meant to focus quickly enough on animal moving that fast. I truncated many penguins as you got to follow them under water and the jump is quick: no time to adjust framing at all. None of the other shots were good. Taken at zoo parc Beauval. I realize the pic could have been beter without the 2nd penguin behind. Well.
PP WORK:
Crop: removed lower part of the shot: only water there.

Hello Jean-Marie
Great action shot of this Humboldt Penguin jumping out of the water (great timing). Penguins are such interesting animals, and it's sad to hear that several species are at risk.
