This is another photo from last month's trip to the Kelheim Gorge in Germany. The gorge supports all kinds of wildlife and has beautiful vegetation all along it. I saw wisteria hanging from the trees, and beautiful wildflowers along the banks. It was a very cloudy morning so most of most shots had a burned out looking sky. I liked this one because you can't see the sky.

The Danube Aperture is between Kelheim and Weltenburg in the national park Altmuehl valley in Germany.
The aperture near Weltenburg is Germany´s most remarkable valley breaking through a mountain barrier, and it is a most important part of the national preserved areas of Bavaria.

A number of favorable factors have come together to create something absolutely unique:
- the elementary force of nature
- the unequalled ensemble of water, rock, and forest
- the abundance of very rare plants and animals
- the number of evidences of man´s activities since the dawn of history
- the most harmonious combination of natural growth and artifacts

The area around the Danube valley has attracted people for a very long time. In the nearby Altmuehl valley , excavators found the skeleton of a cave-dweller who had lived 50,000 years ago. At exactly the same place, one of the oldest works of art in Germany was found: a palm-sized piece of ivory with the carved picture of a mammoth.

It is certified that the valley has had inhabitants since the Stone Age. In the neolithic age there were lively human activities on the Arzberg ("ore hill").
Near the narrowest part of the valley, there is the oldest abbey of Bavaria, and it looks as if it were mounting guard at the valley. Weltenburg was founded in A. D. 600. I have a photo of it posted on TL.

The slopes of the gorge are covered by mixed forests comprising fir-trees, red-beeches, larch-trees, oaks, spruce-firs, maple-trees, pines, yews, hornbeams, willows, hazels, ash-trees and asps.

I named this River's edge for sAner's theme of movie titles. River's Edge is a 2001 movie with Keanu Reeves.

Hi Alli,

This is a nice landscape, but it doesn't really do something for me. I do like the sahdes of green and you even captured a flying bird. :)

Nice shot Alli,
Good POV, I like the colours and composition. The little bird is a bonus. Nicely framed and excellent notes.
Thanks for posting....
