Scientific name: Neophema splendida

The male has a scarlet chest, both sexes have a cobalt blue head and deep yellow underbody. Wing coverts are pale blue. Despite their colourfulness they are often overlooked in their natural habitat. Calls are soft, they feed on the ground and they fly low keeping close to cover.

Erratically distributed across the arid interior of southern Australia from far western NSW to the vicinity of Kalgoorlie (WA). Sometimes locally common and subject to local irruptions. One 1896 record from Bourke and a more recent record from near Euston

The colors are really nice. Maybe a little too saturated for my taste but they stand out nicely.

Don't worry about the background, it is hard to get good background sometimes especially when these birds are in captive.
