[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Yesterday, I had the luck to discover several newly hatched moths, particularly of the family Notodontidae. The picture shows
- Notodonta ziczac
which can be easily recognized by the wing pattern.
The name 'ziczac', however, is not related to the adult moth, but on the caterpillar's shape (see: http://www.leps.it/indexjs.htm?SpeciesPages/NotodZiczac.htm).

Foodplants of the caterpillars are: Populus and Salix-species, Betula pendula.

Species distribution: Europe eastwards to Turkey, North-Africa.

Wingspan: about 45 mm.

Hello Peter,
Fine close capture of N. ziczac, the Pebble Prominent. Nice sharpness showing good detail and adequate blur in the BG to emphasize the moth. Time for me to look for moths now!
TFS and best wishes,
Ivan

Hello Peter!
I always wanted to see this species in the wild, especially its amazing caterpillar :)
Your photo looks really nice, has good DOF, POV and colouration. I like also note-as always very informative :)
Best withes,
Radomir

A good picture accompanied by a wonderful note, the details on the wings , color of the wings and the color of the rock implies it makes vey good use of camaflouge.

Hallo Peter,

Hi Peter
A beautiful creature this moth! I like a lot its wings, mane and antenae.
You are lucky in your huntings, and we are lucky to see your captures. So excellent in quality that is perfect to appreciate details and know the species.
Thank you very much for the image and for the note.
Congratulations and best regards
Maite

Hallo Peter,
Danke Dir.
Gruß
Heinz

Hello Peter
Very nice shot. In my area the only one Notodontidae on the fly is Drymonia ruficornis. I'll try to add a photo I've taken today.
