[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
The series 'In the Low mm-Range'
will focus on small insects!

Here, I show another attempt to achieve a suitable picture of a very small insect, again a cicada (leaf-hopper) nymph.
It rests on the underside of a leaf of the same Salix caprea bush from which I already posted several insect pictures, for example that of the previous cicada nymph: see here!

Length of the insect: about 3-4 mm.

Within the narrow depth of field, details of the insect and of the leaf surface can be seen.
In spite of f/11, the focus plane has to be exact.
As can be estimated from the sharp leaf areas, back or forth movements in the range of 1 mm would dramatically decrease the quality.

- bright natural light
- ISO 400
- handheld (also for this purpose)
- combination of 35 mm macro-lens with an Olympus Digital Extension-Tube EX-25

Other pictures in the series
A mini-fly
A black leafhopper nymph

Ciao Peter,
questa splendida immagine è un altro piccolo gioiello che si aggiunge alla tua raccolta di super-macro.
La messa a fuoco sull'insetto è davvero eccellente, complimenti!
Buon fine settimana,

Hello Peter,

super macro shot, great detail and just enough DoF.
Great to see the detail on these mini insects, good work.

Hi Peter

It's incredible how narrow an f/11 DOF can be at such magnification level... :)
But your macro lens together with the extension tube can indeed produce very good shots if controlled well - which is exactly what you did here again.
Impeccable details for such a minuscule subject, very good focus and side POV, too.
Wonderful work once more!

Bravo and TFS
