Picture no. 3 in the series on the genus Erebia
(Nympalidae, Satyrinae, Satyrini, Erebiina):
- Erebia aethiops
German: Waldteufel, Mohrenfalter
English: Scotch Argus

Species information
Erebia aethiops is a species which is not restricted to high mountains but usually can occur between about 300 to 1500 m. It is distributed in Middle and East Europe and also in Scotland. Eastwards it extends to West-Siberia.
Wing span: about 40mm.
Larval foodplants: many different species of grass.

Location
German Alps, Wettersteingebirge, about 1100 m.

Hello Peter,
Although in BG are visible overexposed patches the butterfly look very nicely perfect spread wings, good sharpness and colours.
