Papilio lowi is an Asian swallow tail with a wingspan up to 13 cm.

Distribution: Papilio lowi is endemic to Palawan, Balabac and Dumaran island.

Host plants: Kalamansi and suha (pomelo) and other cultivated and wild species of Citrus (Rutaceae).

Habitat: Papilio lowi can be seen in any habitat throughout its distribution area and it is a regular sight even in down town Puerto Princesa. Whereas males are seen anywhere, females are only occasionally encountered and then mostly at the edge of forested habitats or along rivers. Balabac specimens are noticed for frequently having a noticeably shorter tail than normal.

Flight season: Throughout the year.

I think I took the picture of the male.

I made it in a Butterfly House in Hamm at the Maximiliam Park in North-Rhine Westfalia.

Martina, this is a very beautiful picture. Maybe, I would try to add some saturation, but that's just an opinion.

Excellent composition and pov; great sharpness.

It's incredible how you got the whole butterfly in focus by using only f/2.8.

Great job.

Good shot Martina. You managed to get very good DOF at this angle and the details are excellent.

Very well done and thanks for posting

Hello Martina, good shot of this butterfly. It's a good detailed shot and the colours and exposrure are good. For F2.8 the DOF is very effective. I feel a little more sharpnening could be applied here, I have posted a workshop to show you. I hope you don't mind.

Hi Martina, This is a gorgeous specimen. Because it is mainly dark of color the exposure meter of the camera measured it as such. This resulted in the whites being a tad hot. You might have considered compensation for this my adjusting the exposure compensation on your camera to -1/3 or -1/2. If I am faced with difficult exposures such as these I used bracketting. Your camera should have that facility. Anyway... I make as if this is not a great shot, it is. It's just a minor nit and not distracting.

He is really beautiful. I like the colors and pattern a lot.
Great capture and well done.

Hi Martina, nice shot of this beautiful butterfly. The workshop by PDP brought out the details and color and made this excellent photo even better. Thanks for sharing it!

Wow!A stunning shot of a wonderful butterfly.
I think the suns glare has bleached the colour a little.
A little darkening, saturation and sharpening would give this more impact.
Very good work though.

Excellent macro of a nice butterfly, Martina. Sharp with good details. I also like the workshop that Paul Prince (PDP) did. It enhanced the colours.
