Prairie dog (Cynomys-ludovicianus)

I took this picture of this cute guy yesterday in a Bird Park in Heiligenkirchen. I hope you like it. :-)

Prairie dogs are small stout-bodied burrowing rodents with shallow cheek pouches native to both North and Central America.

In 2003 they came to public attention in the U.S. because pet prairie dogs spread monkeypox, a mild variant of smallpox previously unknown in North America, to more than a dozen people. The prairie dogs apparently contracted the disease from a Gambian pouched rat in a Chicago-area pet store.

An average size is 12 to 16 inches (30 to 40 cm) long. In the United States prairie dogs are primarily found west of the Mississippi River, but they have been introduced into a few eastern locales. All are herbivores, and in settled regions they sometimes damage crops severely. They have been eliminated from certain areas of the Great Plains where ranchers regard them as pests. The mass culling of the prairie dog lead to the near extinction of the black-footed ferret, which eats the prairie dog.

I like your composition and use of lighting.
Well done.
Good Note.

Nice shot Martina! I like your POV and the "heads-up" pose I see..Good compositon although I might've flipped the image so the subject was looking to the left..Good details, sharpness and OOF BG..You've done well under difficult lighting conditions..Well done.

Nice picture, Martina. I like the composition and the BG. Well done and thanks for sharing with us.

Nice shot Martina,
Good detail and good POV. Nicely framed and good colours. Good composition. Just a touch OE on the back , and flipping the image 180 degrees Horizontally would be better as Howadr suggested.
Well captured, thanks for posting.

Martina, although things seemed really sunny, you did great with exposure.

I like pov and composition. Maybe I'd try to add a little bit more of sharpness, but that's just an opinion.

Excellent shot Martina, he is gorgeous, I love the lighting on his fur, good composition, DOF, details and colours. I think the background is a bit noisy, maybe you can used Neat Image to smoother it. :) Thanks for sharing and have a good weekend. :)

Great portrait!
Excellent POV, very good composition and background.

Good shot Martina!
I think the POV and composition are almost perfect, details are nice too. However there is quite much hot areas there and this could be a bit disturbing.
Overall, the photo has something interesting in it and your model is really lovely.

Hallo Martina,
das Photo ist wieder einmal spitzenklasse.
Das Licht fällt so schön von hinten auf das Fell, trotzdem ist das süße Tierchen nicht dunkel geworden. Wunderschön, danke

What a nice animal on its piece of wood that you have well captured ! Composition, colors, details and sharpness are very good ! Thanks for sharing Martina.

I really like the light and the detail and the composition in this photo. I didn't know there were prairie dogs in Germany. E

Nice pose / composition / POV.
I like the backlighting.

Hi Martina,
I like this picture very much. I would have liked to know how you have managed the light in that picture under conditions I find next to impossible to control. The over exposed bottom left portion bothers me a little, you could have cloned the lovely top bacground to get rid of it - only a suggestion :-). Beautiful picture.

Sorry Martina, I have no time to write a decent comment. I give to you the well deserved smily.
