Hello my dear TN-Friens.
Today I'm proud that I can show you this pretty red bird. I never thought he would come into my garden - expecially at Christmas - he also brought his wife with, but she was very shy.
I have seen him now at 3 days - and always at the same time, I wonder!

Hope you also like him.

It's a Bullfinch or Eurasian Bullfinch, Pyrrhula pyrrhula. That's a small passerine bird in the finch family Fringillidae.

This bird breeds across Europe and temperate Asia. It is mainly resident, but many northern birds migrate further south in the winter.

Mixed woodland with some conifers is favoured for breeding, including parkland and gardens. It builds its nest in a bush or tree, laying 4-7 eggs. The food is mainly seeds and buds of fruit trees, which can make it a pest in orchards.

This species does not form large flocks outside the breeding season, and is usually seen as a pair or family group.

The Bullfinch is a bulky bull-headed bird. The upper parts are grey; the cap, face, flight feathers and short thick bill are black; and the white rump and wing bars are striking in flight. The adult male has red underparts, but females and young birds have grey-buff underparts. The pleasant song of this unobtrusive bird contains fluted whistles.

Beautiful colours, well composed and very good details.
I like the POV too.
Very well done.

I just drop in to wish you a Happy New Year.

Hi Sabine,
It's the X-mas bird here as well - so your timing could not be better.
Lovely capture with fantastic details, seems the guy was hungry
TFS - Shir

Excelllent detail and well exposed on this beautiful bullfinch. Have a Happy New Year! :)

I'd love to see it in my garden, but unfortunatelly all I have is huge herd of Sparrows and plenty of Great Tits ;)
It's a beauty and you've captured it very well.
I like it very much.

Another very beautiful picture. I've never seen such a bird, it's really lovely and you made it perfectly. Congrats.

Very nicely detailed in the head and breast feathers, if one was to be extremly picky it would be the tail just dropping out of focus, maybe F5.6 would of got it but this sort of capture tend to be fairly quick so well done. TFS

Hi Sabine
This is a wonderful shot of this beautiful bird. You have brought out the colours and the superb clarity of his feathers...he has adopted a perfect pose for you. The plain, blurred background emphasises the detail on his plumage. Here in the UK, the Robin is our Christmas bird... thanks for sharing yours. Happy New Year to you. Best wishes, Vicky

Hi Sabine

I seen my first Bullfinch yesterday and today and was so impressed I needed another fix. This shot is so beautiful, very nicely composed and a lovely pose, the detail is just superb with beautiful colours and a lovely BG. I hope to get a shot soon but for now I will have to look through the bars of my Office Window.

TFS Hilary :o)

Hi Sabine,

The point of view is showing the details and colors of the Eurasian Bullfinch. It is well placed in the frame. Using a tripod is helping to have a sharp image of the bird. The noon light is enhancing the colors of the picture. Have a nice day.

A great shot of this Bullfinch, Chinese name is 紅腹灰雀,
