“Ich bin ein Berliner.” (JFK)

The luxury seat that insect has chosen for a rest is the genital region of a wild Paeonia from the Gran Sasso mountain region of Italy:

Paeonia officinalis L.

Not so sure about the insect's exact ID. It seems to be the Lesser House Fly:

Fannia canicularis L.

The place the picture was taken is Dahlem Botanical Gardens, Berlin, Germany.

So one thing seems to be sure - that fly is from Berlin.

Dahlem Botanical Gardens are a magnificent place to visit. In May that place is a paradise, abundant with flowers from all parts of the world, insects, birds. The whole area of these giant gardens is divided into sectors, each of these presenting plants from a different region – trees, ferns, herbs, flowers, so you can easily walk from East Asia to North America, from the Alps to the Pyrenees within just a few minutes.

Camera: Minolta DiMAGE 7Hi, with integrated tele-zoom and macro. No tripod, no flash. sRGB, 51mm, F/4.5, 1/250sec, ISO-100. 07.05.2005, 14:21. 2560x1920 pixels cropped to 1992x1504, sharpened, resized to 800x600 for the web.

Have a very good beginning of May.
Thank you for looking!

Hello Peter!
Excellent close up. POV, colors, details and framing are marvelous.

Hi Peter,
I really like those opening lines..you do have a way with words :)
Great colors and I like the low-key exposure here. I have many insects shots like this myself, showing the flower in prominence. It works well here.
Well done and have a Great Weekend!

Hi Peter,
I like the composition very much. The sharp subject with the soft petals all around it is very well captured.
I think the image is slightly dark and could use some more contrast

Hi dear Peter.
I am always pleased to read your amazing comments as well as the watch your so wonderful pictures. This one is true art work. Terrific scene, great POV. framing, cropping and composition. Soft lighting and delicate and at the same time rich colour palette impress the imagination. Combination of sharpness/details of the flower's heart and insect and blurriness of the petals are fantastic. Bravo. Great piece of photo art.
