Good morning on this (again rainy) sunday.
No chance to go outside to see some insects, I guess they are also sad about that weather - I am!
So I looked at the shots I made one week ago and decided to show you the most wonderful moth we have here in Germany.

The Hummingbird Hawk-moth (Macroglossum stellatarum) is a species of hawk moth with a long proboscis, and is capable of hovering in place, making an audible humming noise. These two features make it look remarkably like a hummingbird when it feeds on flowers. The forewings are brown and the hindwings are orange. The wingspan is 50-58 mm.

Adults may be encountered at any time of the year, especially in the south of the range and two or more broods are produced each year. They fly during the day, especially in bright sunshine. The larva is green with two stripes along the sides and the horn at the rear end typical of sphingids. It usually feeds on bedstraws and madders but has been recorded on other plants including Aster, Centaurea, Petunia, Phlox, Sage and various thistles.

The species is distributed throughout the Northern Hemisphere but is resident only in warmer climates. It is strongly migratory and can be found virtually anywhere in the hemisphere in the summer. However it rarely survives the winter in northern latitudes (e.g. north of the Alps in Europe)

This is just great! Lovely details, excellent composition, great action catch. Wow! TFS,

Fantastic photo Sabine! Excellently framed and well exposed for the background.

Hello Wishnu, this a very sharp photo. I know that it is very difficult to make a sharp image of this very fast flying moth.
Very nice colors and good POV.
Very well done!

Guten Morgen Sabine,
Volle, scharfe Breitseite.
Schöne Grüße, Peter

Hi Sabine,
this is a great catch, I saw one yesterday, they are not many up here, but i didn't get a decent shot ot this beauty.
You have manage to get an excellent inflight with good details and good POV. Lovely colours too.
Great work, my friend.

Bellissima fotografia dai meravigliosi colori e dettagli!

Bravo, grazie, ciao

Aufs baldige, Patrick

Hi Sabine,
I didn't know they were also in Germany. First time I saw one was in Turkey and it puzzels me for days, asking myself if it was a miniature bird or if I had hallucination!
I'm very happy to see one properly as they are so fast. That brings us to your fantastic shot. It is incredible how well you managed to photograph it. Details, exposure, composition and colours are perfect!
They realy do not have insect eyes!
Very well done and TFS

Hello Sabine,
Superb image, action so well captured!
Everything is well balanced in the composition, and the details in your feathered friend are awesome!
Good natural colours, sharp fine details!

Hallo Sabine,

... Einfach toll!

Hello Sabine,
You just freeze this moth in mid air. Sharp and all details clearly seen. Very well done and TFS.

bonjour sabine

Wonderful shot with extremely perfect lighting, exposure and contrast. Outstanding DOF and beautiful BG. Amazing colours etc.

Hi Sabine
Very nice! Great capture of this Hummingbird Moth. Excellent detail, perfect timing and nicely framed. The only nit here for me is that the flash level I think is too high, I would have stepped the flash exposure bias down by maybe -2/3. Super shot!

Excellent quality image!
Very effective use of the flash, good exposure and excellent sharpness. The dark sky makes a nice change as well.

Hello Wishnu,
this is so good! I am pleased to have found it amongst your picture. For the first time I saw a hummingbird hawk moth this year. My husband spotted on last year and did not know what he had seen. I remember he was very excited describing it. This year one came to our garden and my husband cried out in excitement..loook, loolk that the insect i was telling you about! So I have just called him to see your wonderful picture.

Great capture. Your subject seems to be keeping an eye on you! I am amazed that you managed to freeze it at 1/200s. It must have been concentrating so much on your camera lens that it forgot to flap its wings for a second. Smile! TFS.

Hallo Sabine,

wonderful action shot...
I reaaly like it.
Thanks, Enrico.
