One of my favourite species!
I made a theme with the Wild Orchids of Lesvos Island, Greece.

Ophrys minutula Gölz & H.R. Reinhard, 1989
(O. oestriferagroup)

Rare orchid, endemic to the Eastern Aegean islands Lesvos, Samos and Chios. It grows also in Anatolia, on the Cesme peninsula, where it is very rare, and, of course, threatened by salep collectors (Info here).
Main characteristics are the strongly bend backwards sepals, the light greenish-orange or reddish-orange basal lip area and the lip lenght, being only 6,5-9 mm. The side lobes are very short, only 1-3mm long.
Flowering time: Late March to late May.

Cette rare orchidée est endémique des îles de la mer Egée orientale de Lesbos, Samos et Chios. On la trouve aussi sur la péninsule anatolienne de Cesme où elle est rare et, bien entendu, menacée par la récolte du salep (info ici).
C’est une plante à très petites fleurs, aux sépales fortement poussés en arrière, avec une ligne verte orangée ou rouge-orangé sur le bas du labelle, qui n’est que de 6,5 à 9 mm. Les lobes latéraux sont très courts, de 1 à 3 mm de long.

Σπάνια ορχιδέα, ενδημική των νησιών του Ανατολικού Αιγαίου, Λέσβου, Χίου και Σάμου. Κύρια αναγνωριστικά της είναι τα σέπαλα που κάμπτονται έντονα προς τα πίσω, η ανοιχτόχρωμη, πράσινη-πορτοκαλί ή κόκκινη-πορτοκαλί βασική περιοχή του χείλους και το μήκος του χείλους που είναι ιδιαίτερα μικρό, 6,5-9 χιλιοστά. Στοιχείο διαφοροδιαγνωστικό είναι το πολύ μικρό μήκος των πλαϊνών λοβών, από 1 ως 3 χιλιοστά.
Ανθίζει Μάρτιο-Μάιο.

A fine frontal capture in sharp focus and good exposure Catherine, which displays the bilateral symmetry of the orchid quite well in natural colours against a blurry, dark greenish BG. TFS and cheers,

A beautiful orchid flower, superbly captured with fine sharpness and lighing to portray this Ophrys minutula in a most attracti way. The POV, lighting and BG help to make it stand out well. I can see why this is a favourite!
