I had to get away for a while to celebrate my Birthday. Lisa took me to Santorini in the Greek Islands for a bit of R&R. The Island is famous for its spectacular sunsets. The day this shot was taken we overdid it a bit. With temperatures hitting 42 C, a midday hike to the top of a volcano, followed by a swim to the volcanic hot springs. A nice lunch break on the Island of Pirisia, and finally back to Santorini for a donkey trek to the top of Oia where the best views of the sunset can be seen.
The town of Oia has a small population, but every evening a couple of thousand people come to view the sunset. We were lucky to find a good spot before the crowds flocked to the town. Every wall, pathway and rooftop had people sat waiting with cameras.
I highly recommend a visit to santorini, just to experience the sunset. This is the best way to end a hard and tiring day.
I hope you enjoy this, and one day get to experience it for yourselves.

Thanks for looking.

Hi Alan, this sounds like a terrific place to have a holiday. Beautiful warm colours in this scene, quite moody, but restful. Well composed, just the perfect shot. Thank you.

Hello Alan,
a very nice sea/landscape. Looks like a picture-card. I like it. Warm colours and good sharpness. Itīs for me a little bit dark.

Hello Alan

Welcome back! You have just visited on the the places at the top of my wish list! Maybe one day we will be fortunate enough to get there but till then I will have to experience the scenery through your eyes, for this opportunity, I thank you!

What can I say about this sensational sunset and the quality of the image. To be perfectly honest, words escape me as I sit an view this in awe.

Hello Alan,

Happy birthday! "For he's a jolly good fellow, for he's a jolly good fellow and so say all of us!" :) It's great to have you back. This is a spectacular sunset. Colors are really warm and details are great. I would have been tempted to crop some of the dark lower parts, just under the dark silhouettes of the buidlings, which are fantastic and gives us an idea of the whereabouts. Well done & TFS!

Regards,
Pieter

Hello Alan, glad to se you back and I hope you had a great holiday. Happy birthday too!

The shot is very well composed and the colours are excellent. I would try and darken the FG a little more in order to lose the people there. Apart from that it's great, well done.

Hi Alan
Excellent capture, you don't use a tripod, great postcard
TFS
In a friendly way Christophe

Fantastic capture Alan! Very well composed and I like the low-lit FG showing a sample of the Greek architecture there. I got worn out just reading about this special day of R&R ;-)
Well done my friend!

Beautiful image Alan, great contour with the gradient colour, pleasant sunset and beautiful sky. I like the composition with the big black area. No nits, alhough I try to find them.
Thanks for this post, and for your sincere last critic, I agree very much with and find it very useful. Regards, Felipe.

As I suspected, it was your birthday trip! You did the exact itinerary we did, including viewing the sunset from Oia!! I'm glad you had a wonderful time, and especially happy you captured this gorgeous image, damn those people screwing up good pictures!

Nice post, Alan, have a great weekend!

Alli

This golden glow is glorious! What a warm beautiful sunset, well captured with very interesting shapes in the foreground. Well done.

Hi Alan, this is a stunning image. This island's fame is obviously well deserved and you've certainly done it justice. This is a wonderful backlit scene making the sunset centre stage and what a gloriously understated skyline. A great birthday I should think and a happy belated one from me :)

Hello Alan,
I appreciate this late day shot, most images from this POV are daytime showing the typical Greek colours...
Beautiful sunset, fine reflection and sharp silhouettes... Very pleasing to look at!
Greetings,
Pablo -

I can look them for long time. I was there but I do not have any photos.

Hi Alan
Beautiful composition. Kind of everything in the shadow, and very well one can see details. Also a last flash of the sun is wonderful on water. (translator)
