Anemone coronaria L.
Family: Ranunculaceae
Common name: Poppy anemone

The usual seasonal flu kept me in bed for few days. I found the chance for fresh air near by hill at last. HAPPY NEW YEAR to all friends.
The unexpected mild weather in winter here in Crete triggered the flowering of poppy anemones one month earlier. Anemone coronaria is a herbaceous perennial plant growing to 2040 cm tall (rarely to 60 cm), with a basal rosette of a few leaves, the leaves with three leaflets, each leaflet deeply lobed. The flowers are borne singly on a tall stem with a whorl of small leaves just below the flower; the flower is 38 cm diameter, with 5-8 red, white or blue petal-like tepals.
Here this is a poppy anemone with white petals and small snails eating on them. I posted in WS another close to it with dark blue petals
