Calocoris nemoralis (Fabricius, 1787)
Heteroptera: Miridae

This mirid bug of fruits is a small insect of about 6-8 mm in length. Its body is oval-shaped The Miridi are equipped with an oval-shaped body with legs and filiform antennae.

Its host plants are wild and cultivated plants e.g. Rosaceae such as rose spp., Apple, pear and other hardwood species including species of the income of the stone fruit group. Here in photo it feeds on nectar and pollen of the wild plant Chrysanthemum sagetum.
In Crete, this mirid performs one or to two generations per year. It overwinters as eggs at the buds or along the cracks of the bark.
In ornamental plants stings cause necrosis and deformation of the affected organs that can be stems, flowers, leaves or buds.

The damage on the fruits are determined by trophic bites that carry adults. In the puncture areas they are found at the concave deformation and bites the pulp becomes very hard and useless. The symptoms described above is defined lithiasis.

In addition to the fruit it is also affected sprouts slow deformations in the development or total shutdown.

Hello Nikos,
What a colorful Mirid Bug. The orangish red wings contrast nicely with it's black markings. The focus is sharp and the exposure is just right with no blow out areas. I like the way the insect is shown posed in a diagonal stance to the frame. Notes are very informative.
