Leptodes pirithous (Linnaeus, 1767)
Lepidoptera: Lycaenidae
Common name:Lang's Short-tailed Blue and Common Zebra Blue
Leptotes pirithous is a small butterfly with a wingspan of 21–29 mm in males and 24–30 mm in females. The uppersides of the wings are purple bluish in males, bluish-brown in female. The undersides are dark beige striped with white lines. The hindwings show marginal orange and black spots and two small tails. For the design of the undersides of the wings they can be confused with Lampides boeticus and Cacyreus marshalli.
The larvae feed on the flowers and fruits of Fabaceae, Rosaceae and Plumbaginaceae species. It is polyvoltive species that can be found all year round in Crete. Apparently, the larvae are unable to perform a diapause. |

Hello Nikos,
A beautiful butterfly with lovely wing markings. Well saturated colors and just the right exposure. The flower that it is perched on appears very sharp, but the wings seem to be a bit soft for some unknown reason. I like the way you framed it leaving plenty of space in front.
Ron
Hello Nikos,
Beautiful butterfly. Like patterns on its wing. Butterfly and flowering plant are in vertical shape, so in my opinion picture should be taken in vertical frame where bit space below in front of the butterfly. Here left portion is BLANK SPACE to me. This space doesn't have any role with the picture. In vertical frame you could have been avoid such BLANK SPACE. Moreover, wing looks softer than flowering plant.
Thanks for sharing,
Regards,
Srikumar
