[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Hi there!

I haven't visited TN for a while now, I only wanted to say hello with this picture now... I hope you'll like it, please tell me either way but you can save your smileies this time :)

I'd only like to know if it's OK or not, as I'm quite new to bird photography!

I am confused about the composition, I feel the bar too centered while with the bg the whole thing seemed to be OK like this. But I'm not sure so ideas on this are really welcome!

Shot @500mm, very little cropping, level adjustments, resizing etc.

Thanks for looking!

Best regards,
Andor

Hello. I really like your After Rain and On the Move photos. I am not a professional, by any means, but since you are asking what "we" think...I would have made sure to not get, what appears to be a fence, in the shot. I find it distracting. The overall photo seems dark to me. The shadow on the bird doesn't help any. The browns and greens seem to blur into each other. The focus appears to be mainly on the "shoulder" of the wing. And I agree, the bar being in the center isn't how I would have done it, but everyone is different in their tastes. I've gone through your photos, you clearly have taken some lovely pics of other birds. Good luck on future avian subjects!

Hi Andor, I also am a new member, an amateur photographer and like you, have started taking bird pictures recently. So I am afraid my opinions might be wrong and we can have senior TN members help us clarify matters, but I must say your shot stands out in the gallery. I agree with the previous comment that the shadow on the bird does not help, but I somehow feel it brings an artistic touch to the shot. Though I wish that there was more of sharpness and focus, I find the background interesting, yet the bar is distracting in my humble opinion. If I were you, I would have cropped it from right, but then your symmetrical background would not have been so.
I also am interested - am sure it will be a learning experience for me, so will come back to this image and read others' post.

I disagree with both these critiques, Andor...
1.The subject is the bird, which is definitely not centred, so you're actually 'spot-on' from that perspective...
2.The uneven distribution of light on the bird actually looks beautiful, and by no means, does it hide any detail of the bird...
3.Yes, the catchlight in the eye is amiss, but with light coming from the top, that would not be possible.
4.Aesthetically speaking, this shot is second to none.

So very well done, my friend!
Keep up the good work!

Szia Andor!

Köszönöm a friss fotómról a véleményed, válaszoltam is, lásd ott.
