[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This photo of a dactylorhiza maculata, one of the few orchid species on Iceland, shows the Snaefellsness glacier / vulcano on the backgraound. This shot made with a 12-24 mm wide angle is one of my first tests with this kind of photography, showing the orchid in the landscape with large DOF. The snaefellsness vulcano is the vulcano that inspired Jules Verne to write his book, hence the title

cheers

Hallo Jeroen,
Prachtige orchidee in een al even prachtig landschap. Mooie compositiekeuze.
Groet,
Peter

Hi Jeroen. Really nice colour saturation levels in this. The mountain and the flower balance the picture nicely. Clever composition. TFS Trevor

Ciao Jeroen, lovely mountain landscape with beautiful flower in FG, wonderful colors and splendid light, very well done, my friend, ciao Silvio

Beautiful scenery and beautiful photo Jeroen! Very good POV, excellent composition, wonderful colours and good sharpness.

Hi Jeroen
...test ..sounds good! However, in my opinion the image has becomes rather flat that way with the use of relatively closed aperture. The texture of the vegetation in front becomes too complex for the eye with its powerful contrast and on top of that the mountain in the background doesn't look included in the focusing field. Seems to me that the distance between your camera and the flower was too short and in the same time the hill behind was far away, so f/11 was not enough tho bring everything in focus ... the way you wanted. I do not know ... I feel that the result could be better in an overcast day perhaps
Regards,
George Veltchev

Hi Jeroen
this is exactly what I remember from my Iceland trip: incredible DOF!
Volvanos tens of km away but as clear as the orchid right in front of you, these views with such a clean atmosphere are just incredible and you caught it very well here
