[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
The Bog Meadows in Belfast is a designated Local Nature Reserve. It has recently won a UNESCO Man & Biosphere award for bringing nature and mankind together. It has a very urban setting - surrounded by the main M1 Motorway into Belfast, Milltown Cemetery, a major Girls School and housing area at St. James. It is set in West Belfast near the Falls Road. The Reserve has been split into 3 distinct areas - A public area with paths down to ponds, an educational area with pond dipping platforms and other wildlife interactive areas and thirdly a conservation area. In the conservation area a local, fully licensed, group have carried out a bird ringing (banding) and monitoring scheme oner a period of over 10 years.

The Bog Meadows comprises an array of habitat including: reedbeds, meadows, ponds, woodland, streams and hedgerows. Wildlife includes: sedge, willow and grasshopper-warblers, sand martins and swallows, hawker dragonflies, lapwing, reed bunting, stonechat, Leislerís bats and much much more.

This photograph was taken at dawn during one such exercise. This is taken from the conservation area looking south with the M1 Motorway running parallel to the electric cables and pylons. At close inspection you can see markers on the cables to prevent bird strikes as ducks, geese and swans fly into the ponds.

Hi Terry,
interesting mix between human activity and natural environment. I'd prefer this second one :)
Nice fog. Very good point of view.
Thanks for sharing,
