Hi Trekkers,

What you see on my pic is an alien creature, uhm, the Purple Jellydisc (Ascocoryne sarcoides J.W. Groves & D.E. Wilson), a rather common ascomycete with worldwide distribution. Fruiting, at least in the temperate Europe, around late autumn / early winter. I managed to find it only in one location in Ireland, on the same log on the fall of both 2013 and 2014.

Photo: taken in my favourite forest at the Curraheen riverside; in shutter priority exposure mode with flash. PP: moderate cropping only.

I hope you'll like this strange little ascomycete as it's the creation of our world also, even not being the most attractive (probably for weirdos like me only).

Hi Laszlo, very curious specie that reminds me the pink corals of Red Sea that i seen durng my snorkeling adventures. Absolutely beautiful, the pic too is a masterwork,so bright and sharp despite the difficult light, excellent use of flash for a great result,i like it! Have a nice week and thanks,Luciano

Hello Laszlo,
A fantastic image of this specific type of fungi. I like its pretty pink color and jelly like texture. The focus is super sharp showing its coral like features off in fine detail. Appears you were fortunate to be able to photograph it right after a rain shower. Well done!

This is a wonderful, almost three dimensional, capture of a unique species of Fungi, Laszlo.
The log makes perfect natural setting for the shot. The light has been handled with great dexterity to create a life-like image.
Thanks also for an interesting note.

great closeup, TFS Ori
