This shot was taken on monday - 21 hours after the one I posted yesterday. The cone is the same as the one, but taken from lower down the slope and a slightly different angle. As you can see, Etna started to erupt overnight - I had stayed halfway down the mountain and was aware of a noise like a plane taking off as I left the hotel, so I drove up the mountain again to see it erupting in the distance.

The journey to the summit is first to the car park, then cable car and finally by 4X4 bus. It costs 48 Euros - which is a bit expensive, but I did not mind paying twice to see this!! The pictures was taken at around eight and a half thousand feet, so apart from the difficulty with the bright snow and black rock I had to contend with very cold hands - but who cares!! - I saw it!!.

Hi James,
excellent shot, the money was not spend for nothing, seeing something like this makes it well worth it. Great timing on this photo,
just as the lava spews out of the vulcano.
Colors, sharpness and detail are excellent.

Hi again James

It was definitely worth paying that fare twice!
The moment here is indeed breathtaking and your timing was terrific!
It's really great to see all that red mass of lava bursting out from there and contrasting so well with pretty much everything else around it!
Superb job!

Bravo and TFS

Run james! Run!.....What your still there? This is a really super shot of a volcano erupting. I was down in Costa Rica watching Mount Arenal spew molten lava down its side at night, it is definitely a site to see in person. I never got any pictures of it though as I was focusing my attention to anurans in the night. :)

So there it is, James!
An experience worth its "weight" in gold -- speaking figuratively.
A first rate ringside view of the great happening!
The red lava spewing out of earth in a great jet. Fantastic capture!
The play of light over the mountain and clouds adds a dramatic touch to the shot.
Well done and thanks for showing this great event.
Best regards.

James,"Lucky U" is what i wud say despite u getting poorer by 48 Euros....what a natural display that you have been able to capture...I remember reading "Pompei" two years ago and feeling every bit of the volcano waiting to erupt...and here you 're,recreating the same feeling in me through your picture. The spewing molten red against the white snow and the dark mountain in the backdrop of blue sky!!!Bravo!!!

TFS & Cheers
