Lampides boeticus (Linnaeus, 1767)

Common English Name: Long Tailed Blue

The Long-Tailed Blue, is a cosmopolitan and strongly migratory species, found in Europe, Africa, Southeast Asia and Australia that belongs to the Lycaenids or Blues family.

Identification. A long tail on the hindwing separates this spices from most of the other blues. Upperside hindwing with prominent black anal spot.
Male with upperside violet-blue with rough texture due to numerous androconia.
Female (in the photo) with upperside dark grey-brown; basal and discal areas suffused violet-blue; upperside of the fore-wing may have obscure white marginal and postdiscal markings.

Habitat/Flight. Diverse. Typically hot to very hot flowery placet. Often found flying very rapidly around stands of pea plants. In these circumstances it can be quite numerous. It flies from February to November in a succession of broods throughout the summer. Larvae feed on the flowers and pods of various pea plants (Leguminosae).

Hi Marcello,
Wonderful shot with such lovely colours and details. Superb lighting and exposure and I like the natural surrounding and the ambience presented very much. The tiny blue butterfly contrasts well with the pink flowers. Excellent POV and very nicely composed. Kudos.

Hello Marcello,
It's really the perfect shot. I very like your POV, also colour and sharpness is great. Thanks
