Ematurga atomaria (Linnaeus 1758)
Common heath (inglese)
Phalène picotée (francese)

Ordine Lepidoptera
Famiglia Geometridae
Genere Ematurga

- la femmina ha ali a fondo bianco con bande trasversali brune, le antenne sono filiformi;

This can be a beautiful moth at times. It is very variable in marks and color; some specimens may be almost all whitish. As its name suggests it can be found in heathlands (mainly); not to be confused with the heath butterflies. The caterpillars will feed on heather and sometimes nearly plants (calluna, erica, trifolium).
The adults fly in two generations a year. They are active during day time and come to light.

- la femelle presénte des ailes à fond blanc traversées de bandes brunes, les antennes sont filiformes;

Hi Maurizio,

Bellissimo! I'm borrowing your language but it is the perfect way to describe this picture. The butterfly is beautiful with wonderful colors and markings. The composition is magnificent with the horizontal branch and the fresh green leaves.

Hi Maurizio. i do like the pose you have captured in this close up of the butterfly. good detail and colours against a good BG. and . well done tFS.
Nick..

ciao Maurizio,

What an interesting moth, looking like a butterfly, except those formidable antennae Maurizio, perfectly illuminated by the soft rays of the sun and captured in fine focus against the emerald-green OOF BG. The WS demonstrates the same from below. TFS both of these fine images my friend.
Mehmet

Hi Maurizio,
Simple yet so beautiful a composition. The green in the palette and the brown on the subjects makes a wonderful contrasts. It looks such an ethereal shot. The muted BG looks great and the red of the stem again presents a superb contrast. Thanks for sharing this...
Cheers
P.S:I did a little workshop.hope you wont mind:)

Ciao Maurizio, you have a beautiful capture of this moth with very good light providing very excellent detail on the moth itself and great colour. The leaf behind it provides a good background. I might have been tempted to go for a different crop, and made the moth a little larger for your audience. I've prepared an example in the workshop.

Thanks, John

Hi Maurizio,
This is an artful composition, I like it.
Nice light and color, great shades of green throughout..
Great detail/DOF and an interesting POV.
The WS addition close view is very nice also.
Well done & TFS!
Howard

I like your bold cropping, Maurizio.
Sometimes it is better to be original than to follow the thumb rules. The long branch forms a vital part of this sharp and crisp image of a pretty moth.
The focus is sharp and the details are excellent.
Thanks.

Hello Maurizio,
Excellent capture of a male Common Heath Moth, caught from a great POV and set in a fine composition with the hawthorn branch against a great bokeh BG.
TFS this beauty,
Ciao,
Ivan

Hello Maurizio superb macro capture with wonderful BG. TFS.
Greetings, Deniz

Lovely colour and detail in the wings.
The OOF BG is lovely.

Hello Maurizio,
very well describing, and artistically most distinguished elegant composition. Very pleasant dim light, highlighting the butterfly in a marvellous way. Thank you!
With best regards,
Peter

Hi Maurizio,
A beautiful photo where the color of the OOF BG enhances the many colors of the moth. The composition where you left a lot of room on the right of the moth is great and gives the photo just that more to make it stand out among others.
TFS,
Niek

Hola Maurizio,
Saludos

Hi Maurizio,
Beautiful shot, moth against the green. :) I think You composed the photo really well, placing of the insect and DOF are perfect. Wonderful contrast.
Although 'iris' is right about the background noise, but otherwise a top notch photo.
Ciao e grazie, László

Hello Maurizio. This is one artistic image. The leave and the subject are very well framed against the pleasing green muted background. I like the crop of this well metered shot. Best regards. Jusni

Hello Maurizio !
Looking through your gallery, I saw this onderful picture and I had to stop by. The moth is very beautiful, specially his antennasw which look like feathers. the contrast between the brown moth and the reen BG is striking, and I also like the composition, with the delicate plant coming out from the right border and ending with the chamin moth. Very well done !
Valerie.
