Common Name. Thick-headed flies

Myopa sp.

Conopids, usually known as the thick-headed flies, is a family of flies within the Brachycera suborder of Diptera.
Conopids are remarkable flies. Many are attractive and mimic wasps and bees, their primary prey.
Adult Conopidae are nectar feeders, while the larvae are endoparasited of mainly Hymenoptera Aculeata.

Myopa are brownish to blackish Conopids, which are immediately recognized by the large, inflated and whitish face, which extends far below the eyes. All species have a very long and slender proboscis; in some species the proboscis is elbowed.

Molti alzano lo sguardo verso il cielo, per cercare creature aliene.
A me basta, per trovarle, posare i miei occhi su un fiore!

Hi Marcello,
this is truly spectacular, I mean not only the strange fly but also your picture. The composition, the light, the transparent head, the stiletto, the flower, the background are perfect. I'm glad you like flies also! Well done, Marcello.
Best regards

Hi Marcello,
that's a wonderful shot of this interesting fly. A strange face - yellow - unusual for flies. But I like it so much - special on this pretty flower, thanks and greetings
