Olympus OM-2N, a 50mm lens and an extension ring.
The slide has been reproduced with an 'Dia-Duplikator' attached to my Olympus E-1 via an 40-150mm lens.

Series: ... Satyrinae of the North Italian Alps
Picture: .. no. 13

Species: ... Erebia stirius (Godart, 1824)
Tribe: ...... Satyrini
Subtribe: .. Erebiina
English: Styrian Ringlet
German: -----

Erebia stirius is confined to the south-east Alps: Karawanken, Julian Alps, Dolomites, Monte Baldo and the Kapela and Velebit-Mountains.

The species is very similar to Erebia styx which I have shown also in this series. They can be distinguished by some characters of the forewing underside.
This picture shows a female of E. stirius with extraordinarily strong wing markings.

Forewing length: about 25 mm.

Location: North Italian Alps, Friuli, Monte Simeone, about 1200m.

Going by the superior quality of this picture, my conviction is re-confirmed that good photography and digital age are not synonymous, Peter.
This is a brilliant capture of this attractive species of butterflies taken 18 years ago with your film camera.
The focus on the subject is immaculate and so are the colours and details.
Thanks for sharing this old GEM and best regards.

Hi Peter,
A lovely capture of this satyrinae butterfly. Excellent details and very good composition. Thanks a lot for sharing.

Hi Peter.
I like the colour pattern of the picture. Colour of the BG supplements of the colour palette of the butterfly so nicely. Posture and wingspread of the insect as well as the POV are superb. I like the nice details and perfect sharpness of the butterfly image. My best wishes and TFS.
Alexei.

Hi Peter,
This surely was not an easy achievement with a film SLR and an extension ring, made me remember some of my old macro works with reverse adapters, bellows and bulky SLRs like a Nikon F2. Good work indeed, and TFS.
Mehmet

Hi Peter,
As you say, extraordinarily strong markings. Very fine result, thanks.
Alan

Hi Peter,
A great capture!
I like so much the patterns and colours got on the insect's wings, they're really appealing.
You're very accurate with the info and the ID.
Congratulations and thanks for share it.
My best regards,
JM
