I am back from my very nice but also very short holiday to Venice. We were fabulously lucky to have had such a beautiful weather during our entire stay and from what our driver told us, it was the best weather he saw for a Venice trip in all his years of working this route :)

Surely, most of my photos are about narrow streets, beautiful masks and magnificent architecture, but aside all that, i really wanted to take some photos that would somehow fit TN, too. For that i convinced myself to wake up early every morning in order to try to take some sunrise shots from the beach in front of our hotel from Lido di Jesolo, not very far from Venice. This was actually taken in our second day, when i was lucky to have caught a spotless atmosphere in which the colors of this majestic sight would gently blend into each other.

For some interesting information about the color spectrum, click here for a wikipedia link.

If you are curious, you can see some more landscapes from this place here, on my website :)

Sad but true: not being used to shooting in this type of conditions, my firsts shots (which were really great, by the way) were ruined by the rising tide which made my tripod slowly sink...i only realized that after downloading them on the PC :((

Tech-talk: i used a Cokin medium gradual grey (P121M) filter for this shot mounted on top of the polarizer. The photo is full-frame and there were almost no modifications brought to the initial shot in terms of saturation...what you see is what i saw with my own eyes :)

Hope you'll like it :)

Hi Horia
This is really nice view of this fabulous place. Colours are really glowing, details are good and it is well composed too.
Well done and TFS.
Ralf

Hi Horia!

I just commented PaulH's last shot and said mud usually isn't too pretty while in his shot it is. Now we have two shots in a short period where mud looks very nice, and here coupled with a wonderful sky too, but still the two shots are so different.

You have captured a prefect moment in the sunrise, when the red glow is just a line and the color gradiation opens up wide in the clean sky. The pattern in the bottom is beautiful too and the composition is perfect with the pier in the right place. TFS!

ps. I spent two wonderful holidays in Lido di Jesolo when I was a child so it's esecially nice to see such a wonderful shot from there

Best regards,
Andor

Hi Horia!

Hmm, I see that not only the Carnival was worth the trip, but also the region and its atmosphere. It also seems that you didn't suffer too much from any possible excesses that may happen during a carnival. Or maybe you didn't go to bed at all that night...

:)

Your sunrise is marvellous, the composition with the sand ripples and the landing stage is superb. And the colors don't need any words...

Kind regards

Markus

Beautiful photo Horia!
The colours and lighting are magnificent!
Very well composed with the cleverly placed silhouetted pier.
Lots of interest throughout the photo - I love the rippled sand.
You have blurred the sea splendidly!
You obviously had a great time in Venis! The other photos on your website are just as brilliant :)
Very well done Horia,

Hallo Horia
You were awarded with a fabulous sunrise for waking up early. All worthwhile. Yes this is indeed magnificent and awesome scenery. Lovely warm and golden colours. I like the way your presentation shows the different coloured layers on the horizon. Very peaceful and serene effect. I am sure you enjoyed this short holiday with proof of these kinds of photos it cannot be otherwise. Thanks for sharing. Lovely seascape to look at. Much appreciated.
Kind regards

Hi Horia,
I'm happy that you had a good time in your trip. Before reading the title and your notes I thought it was a sunset. It's a beautiful sunrise photo, colors, light, and composition are so lovely and peaceful. Well done and TFS my friend
Cheers,
Selen

Hi Horia,
I'm surprised by the long time exposure, it must be just the begin of the sunrise.
The composition is so good, I like the way you included the wharf into, to have several interest focal points.
The foreground rippled sand looks great, same that the sky's colour gradations.
I think I like more this vertical version than the horizontal one on your site.
My compliments and thanks for share it.
Best regards,
JM

Horia,

Great comp here,
I like the way the forground is left leading you into the image,
Great job and beautiful colors,

Hello Horia,
I don't think I have ever used a 15-second long exposure in my long life but now I see that it certainly has its uses. The colours of the rising sun over the Venice Lido, the smoothness of the sky contrasting with the rippled texture of the sand make this beautifully composed wonderful image ,the long jetty adding an abstract feature, all contribute to a feast for the eyes.
Bravo my friend: I admire your talent and thanks for sharing it!
Ivan

Hello Horia this is a wonderfull shot the colours and light are truely amazingly captured. the graduation of colour in the sky is superb. The composition with the wet sand reflections work very well. Nice sharpness and detail. Splendid work tfs rgds Necip.

Hi Horia,

This is an amazing picture. The composition, POV, colors and sharpness are perfect. The color of the sky is superb and nicely graduated. Grad filter do make for a great picture. Like the ripples of the waves on the beach and the pier in this picture is nicely chosen. Good job. TFS.

Horia, this is just like a painting created by a master. In French we say it is "épuré", it's hard to translate, it is a "denuded" landscape. Wonderful. You go right to the essential with "volupté" in a zen-like fashion. The patterns at the foreground prepare us for the patterns of the deck, the beautiful light bathing the whole frame with those horizontal layers of colours. Is that the Venice magic? Wowwww! Thank you,

francine

So there you were!!! :)
Watching this picture I believe that you holiday - even if short, was were nice and interesting :)
This is lovely, very climatic picture! It reminds me summer time, not winter month like January!!!
Beautiful composition and colouration!
By the way, what did you visit in Italy? Only Venice?
Hope to hear from you soon with some new pictures from Italy :)
Greetings,
Radomir

Horia,
I just 'discovered' your website. Great! I knew you were up to something but I had not seen it before.
This piccture is also from a high standard. Just like Ivan said. A shutter speed of 15 seconds. I think I only used it at night time. The direction of the rimples and the pier creates a nice depth effect if the picture. The intense colours give a sublime effect on the bacjground.
A very good one!

Hello my friend,
well, seems you have done it again...very smooth, clear and well seen...the colours are just amazing. I very much like the combination of rippled sand and low light levels, long exposure and deep foreground detail - great idea ;o)
It's so nice to see other landscapes here on TN, especially ones of such high quality as this.
Paul

Hello Horia,
This must be an inspiration from your vacation. Very well cut-off horizon exposing more backgroud with excellent details of the sand in low tide. The jetty makes superb horizontal perspective against this stunning sunset. Cloudless but with perfect hues of colors. I like it and very well done.

Regards,
Jusni

Hi Horia
Simle but magical. Fantastic shot. Beautiful colors great light, I like long foreground and OOF waves

Hello Horia,
You are also in the artistic shot ;-) Impressive shot !
The "+++" : composition, incredible colored sky, water/sand effect, POV, sharpness, useful complementary note...
The "-" : nothing...
Bravo and thanks for sharing,
Christian
Note : Friday I go to Venice for 3 days...

Hi Horia,
Sorry I had to laugh when reading about the event with the tide and your tripod. I think we all experience these kind of things, and they do make you angry at first, but they are funny to hear. Maybe some of these fotos can be considered art. I would actually like to see one.

The photo....simply awesome. Such great colors and the emptyness makes it a real strong composition. I like the diagonal line of the ripples in the FG and the opposite direction of the jetty. You really need to print this on A3 format and hang it on the wall.
TFS,
Niek

Hello Horia,
Excellent work. The long exposure time and cokin's effect have produced lovely gradiations of color in the sky. Luv that solid orange/red band of color at the horizon, and the ripples of sand FG look great. Wonderful composition,
Very well done.

Hello Horia, it would be very hard to have a more striking picture! I can't pull away my eyes out of it, it's a true masterpiece and goes to my favorites right away. I can't find somthing in it that isn't perfect. WOW ! Thanks,

Mario

Hello Horia

What a magnificent landscape! Not only are the colours beautiful, but the composition is simply perfect. A real pleasure to view. Congrats! :-)

Hello Horia
You have framed this perfectly...The angles are all opposing but blend into one perfectly..The textures in the sand are spot on and then..if that is not enough the colurs from the rising sun are just awesome....BUT....the fact that you have taken this as if it was a film shot and didnt have the luxury of PP to tweek it afterwards is outstanding....It shows that you really Know your equipment and your eye.
perfect work and the pictures on your site are stunning.
Great Notes and I thank you for sharing your knowledge of how you achieved this.

All The Best to you Horia

Hello Horia,
Thank you for sharing this awesome sunrise with us and nice to see you back from your holiday!
Sunrise/sunset is another true beauty that always caught my attention and try to share with it the best we can!
a very respected posting of sunrise from you!
much appreciated
greeting from NZ
Tony

Hello Oria,
Very nice nice sunset.. or is it dawn?
It's wonderful that you could find and take a photo to a place because as you told us, Venice is plenty of history, people, buildings, canals, canal boats... difficult to find there, places where we can be alone with a little peace.
This place and your image represents the stillness, calmness and tranquility in the hubbub of Venice.
Thanks for sharing with all of us, I'll go to Venice nextly and I will look for this same place. Thanks also for your warm coment to my vulture's image.
Cristina
