In the workshop the top moment!

Class: Insecta

Order: Odonata

Suborder: Zygoptera

Family: Platycnemididae

Genus: Platycnemis

Species: P. pennipes

The White-legged Damselfly (Platycnemis pennipes) is a damselfly of slow-flowing, muddy waters. It is much more restricted in range than the Banded Demoiselle which it invariably accompanies.Mature adults differ from most other blue damselflies in having expanded white edges to the tibiae, paired black markings down most of the abdomen, broad pale brown antehumeral stripes and a pale brown pterostigmata.
The male has a blue abdomen that is often pale and usually has a greenish thorax.
The female is a very pale yellow-green colour with black markings. This species favours unshaded slow-flowing sections of muddy rivers with abundant floating vegetation. it has been recorded in tidal rivers and the larvae seem well able to tolerate brackish water. It also occurs in muddy streams but is rare in lakes or ponds of any sort.
Mating is preceded by the male displaying his white legs. Elongated eggs are laid whilst in tandem, into emergent stems and especially the underside of floating leaves. The larvae live amongst bottom debris and emerge after two years. After emerging, adults tend to congregate in the shelter of tall vegetation, although some immatures wander away from water and have been found five kilometres away from the nearest breeding site.

Hi Luciano,
Very nice contrast. Vivid colours, fine details and a nice composition.
Best regards

Gran delicadeza Luciano y una bella composición. Creo que sobra algo de luz en algunos puntos de la toma. Buen fondo y oportunas ramas en el primer plano.

Hello Luciano,

Impresive way of rendering the structure of wings. I like the way you have shown the transparency of the wings. Nice sarp image of the damselfly body with beautifull colors.

Thank you for sharing,
Cristian

The pair of photos go together well..doing one in workshop was a good notion Luciano. The particular act as this must be very hard to image...or perhaps they are not as flighty when they are doing something. I am still learning a certain amount of patience from images such as this.

Hello Luciano,
A fine capture of a pair of Featherlegs in cop. with nice sharpness, BG and composition. Good POV too. Just a little OE, but a fine image.

Have a good weekend,
Ciao,

good lighting with great details and colour
well done
ciao

Caro Luciano,
all'alba del sabato mattina apro il pc e vedo questa foto... sei un grande!!!
Bisognerebbe mettere su una mostra itinerante a tema "Time of love - un amore micro"... I tuoi capolavori e quelli di Silvio (che anche lui ha tanti scatti amorosi). Secondo me avrebbe una buona riuscita.
;-)
Complimenti
Marco

There is so much symmetry in the love-making of these creatures, Luciano.
There are portions of over-exposure on the abdomens, but who am I to criticize after my latest posting? :)
Anyway, there are more merits to this capture than shortfalls, so I rate this as a very good shot, overall. Okay?

salut Luciano,

Buona domenica.
