Species: V. atalanta

The Red Admiral or Vanessa atalanta (previously also known as Pyrameis atalanta) is a well-known colourful butterfly, found in temperate Europe, Asia and North America. The species is resident only in warmer areas, but migrates north in spring, and sometimes again in autumn.
This large butterfly is identified by its striking dark brown, red and black wing pattern. The caterpillar feeds on nettles, and the adult drinks from flowering plants like the Buddleia and overripe fruit.
In northern Europe, it is one of the last butterflies to be seen before winter sets in, often feeding on the pale fire of ivy flowers on sunny days. The Red Admiral is also known to hibernate, re-emerging individuals showing prominently darker colourings than first brood subjects. The butterfly also flies on sunny winter days, especially in southern Europe.
In North America, the Red Admiral generally has two broods from March through October. Most of North America must be recolonized each spring by southern migrants, but this species over-winters in south Texas.

Ciao Luciano,
We're neighbours in the gallery today... :) Great image, beautiful exposure - I especially like the contrast between the green leave and the black background. Nice pose of the b-fly also - though I prefer these insects with fully opened wings, but it isn't always possible to capture them that way. No sharpness problem either. A pleasant pic to look at. Congrats and tfs.
Ciao, Ladislao

Hello Luciano,
Very well taken shot of this pretty butterfly. I like the colors of the background you got here, we don't see such tones in butterfly pictures too often.
Best regards Siggi

Ciao Luciano,

Perfetta regolazione della luce! ... Good job!

Hi Luciano,

Lovely macro of the Red Admiral!
The sharpness and well-chosen POV with shallow DOF, collectively gave great results here. The colors are simply natural and there exist a great contrast between the colors of the butterfly itself.
Great composition!

Have a nice weekend.

best regards,

Ciao Luciano

Ciao amico Luciano,

An expertly taken macro capture of this beautiful Red admiral from lateral POV with neat details and sharpness.
TFS and have a nice sunday MF!
Cheers,

Bayram

Porca miseria Luciano! Dati: time 1/500 f.10 iso 400. Totale impostazione anche messa a fuoco manuale. Presa con obiettivo sigma 70-300 funzione macro attivata. Distanza pressappoco 70 cm. Che ne pensi?

Roberto

Ciao Luciano,
Grazie e complimenti
Buona settimana
Ciao Maurizio

hello Luciano
Super composition with good sharpness and beautiful colours
greeting lou
