[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
This Sardinian Warbler (Sylvia melanocephala) is from the amazing mountain of Monte Gargano in the south east of Italy. We went there during april mostly for orchids but also for some birdwatching.
In one of the incredible orchid fields I heard the unmistakable sound from this male and tried to sneak up on him. This was the closest I could get... as the lighting was beginning to fad I had to remove the extender and put the ISO on 1250.
From Wikipedia:
Like most Sylvia species, it has distinct male and female plumages. The adult male has a grey back, whitish underparts, black head, white throat and red eyes. Plumages are somewhat variable even in the same locality, with the intensity of a reddish hue on upper- and/or underside varies from absent to (in some subspecies) pronounced. The female is mainly brown above and buff below, with a grey head.
The Sardinian Warbler's song is fast and rattling, and is very characteristic of the Mediterranean areas where this bird breeds.
Processing:

Hej Bengt!
Nice to see you posting and posting such a fine shot of a singing Sardinian Warbler. The POV, technical aspects and composition are excellent.
Thanks and have a good weekend,
Ivan
Hallo Bengt
What a beauty and how wonderful is it to see and appreciate all its delicate features, like its white throat, thin Pinnochio legs and the red eye that has automatic magnetism to it. Image is sharp, composition pleasant and the "singing pose" just to die for. Thanks for sharing such a special little bird in a pleasant manner. Best regards.
Anna
Hi Bengt,
Lovely image of this unusual bright eyed little bird. The detail is very good, the eye adds a nice bit of colour and the background is well out of focus.
Great capture and TFS
