Kingdom: Plantae
(unranked): Angiosperms
(unranked): Eudicots
(unranked): Rosids
Order: Celastrales
Family: Celastraceae
Subfamily: Celastroideae
Genus: Euonymus

Euonymus, often called spindle or spindle tree,is a genus of flowering plants in the staff vine family, Celastraceae. It comprises about 170–180 species of deciduous and evergreen shrubs and small trees. They are mostly native to East Asia, extending to the Himalayas, and they also have a distribution in Europe, Asia, Australasia, North America and Madagascar.
The flowers occur in small groups, inconspicuous and of green or yellow shades. The leaves are opposite (rarely alternate) and simple ovoid, typically 2–15 cm long, and usually with a finely serrated margin.
The fruit is a pink-red four- or five-valved pod-like berry, which splits open to reveal the fleshy-coated orange seeds. The seeds are eaten by frugivorous birds, which digest the fleshy seed coat and disperse the seeds in their droppings. Many species are used for medicinal use, and parts of the plants can be poisonous to humans.
The wood of some species was traditionally used for the making of spindles for spinning wool; this use is the origin of the English name of the shrubs.
Spindles are popular garden shrubs, grown for their foliage, the deciduous species often exhibiting very bright red fall colours, and also for the decorative berries.

CIao Maurizio

Luciano, this is a fantastic shot of this fruit. Great presentation. I hope that you are your family have a great Christmas. Bill

Hello Luciano,
fine capture of this plant with good sharpness and wonderful colours. In our region we call this plant Pfaffenkäppchen which means little cap of a priest(calotte). So this is also a nice Christmas picture.
I wish you and your family a Merry Christmas,
Helmut

Wonderful combination of colours, perfectly suitable for this time of the year.
Excellent detail and composition.
regards yiannis

Ciao Luciano,
Merry Christmas to you & your loved ones, too. Excellent image, with the perfect flashing style which I love so much on your photos... Gorgeous colors and contrast. Fantastic "in-camera stuff" - but I find the canvas very thick and complicated. I'd like to see more of the image and less of the canvas, because the photo itself is bombastic.
