Class: Insecta
Order: Odonata
Family: Gomphidae
Genus: Onychogomphus
Species: O. forcipatus

Onychogomphus forcipatus, the Small Pincertail or 'Green-eyed Hook-tailed Dragonfly', is a species of 'dragonflies' belonging to the family Gomphidae.
This quite common and widespread 'dragonfly' is present in most of Europe. The adults grow up to 60 millimetres (2.4 in) long and can be encountered close to running water and lakes from June through September. Their life cycle lasts about 3-5 years.
The eyes of Onychogomphus forcipatus are widely separated and grey-to-green. The two black lines on the side of the thorax are relatively narrow and touch the midline. It has a yellow line on the 'vertex' and two cells above the anal triangle. The abdomed in males is fitted with three hooks of large size (anal appendages). 'Cercoids' may be dark and have a subterminal tooth. The base of the hindwing is angled in males and rounded in females.

Dimensioni: lunghezza: 45-50 mm, apertura alare 55-70 mm.

Ciao Luciano

Very interesting post, I have never seen this dragonfly here. Even if the lighting is more than appropriate the image is very good, nice POV, very nice composition and nice blurring bokeh.

Hello Luciano,
A fascinating macro shot of this colorful dragonfly. The facial detail is exceptional and colors are vivid yet natural. I can always envision an intimidating face with large eyes, two nostrils, and a squared off mouth and chin, whenever I see a close-up of a dragonfly like this. Nicely composed with just the right exposure.

Hi Luciano,
I have done a shot of the same species of Dragonfly like you did, but no way will I present mine on TN after having seen yours :-) You choose a supoerb angle, all of a sudden the term "Dragon" makes a lot of sense! Great job.
Best regards, Dietrich
