Lunghezza ala anteriore mm. 15-20
Descrizione: sessi simili; fascia biancastra ampia e continua sulle piap. Si può confondere con C. glycerion, che presenta sulle piap alcuni spazi irregolari postdiscali biancastri.
Maschio: ali anteriori di colore arancio con ampio bordo marginale nerastro sfumato. Posteriori bruno nerastre con tracce di linea marginale arancio nei pressi del bordo anale.
Femmina: simile al maschio ma generalmente più grande
Rovescio: ali anteriori di colore arancio con tracce di banda postdiscale bianca presso l’apice ove è quasi sempre presente una piccola macchia ocellate nera, pupillata di bianco e contornata di giallastro. Posteriori di colore bruno con sfumatura basale grigiastra, una larga fascia postdiscale bianca e diverse grosse macchie ocellati nere, pupillate di bianco e contornate di arancio.
Distribuzione: tutta l’Italia escluse le isole,
Habitat: prati, bordi dei boschi e radure del piano basale e montano fino a circa 1500 metri s.l.m.
Generazioni annuali: una con sfarfallamento degli adulti in giugno e localmente una seconda parziale in agosto.
Piante nutrici: Melica ciliata, Melica nutans, Melica minuta, Bromus sp, Festuca sp, Poa sp.

Front wing length mm. 15-20
Description: similar sexes; wide and continuous whitish band on the plates. It can be confused with C. glycerion, which presents some whitish irregular post-discal spaces on the plains.
Male: orange forewing wings with wide marginal blackish border. Hind brown blackish with traces of orange marginal line near the anal border.
Female: similar to the male but generally larger
Reverse: orange fore-wings with traces of a white post-discal band near the apex where a small black ocellar patch is almost always present, pupillata of white and surrounded by yellowish. Hindquarters of brown color with a greyish basal shade, a large white post-discal band and several large black ocellated spots, pupillated in white and surrounded by orange.
Distribution: all Italy excluding the islands,
Habitat: meadows, edges of forests and clearings of the basal plane and mountain up to about 1500 meters s.l.m.
Annual generations: one with adults flickering in June and a second partial locally in August.
Feeding plants: Melica ciliata, Melica nutans, Melica minuta, Bromus sp, Festuca sp, Poa sp. |
