Nome Volgare: Titania
Famiglia: Nymphalidae.
Sottofamiglia: Heliconiinae
Lunghezza ala anteriore mm. 20-25
Descrizione: areale esteso a tutte le Alpi ma distribuzione sporadica e localizzata. Le uova sono deposte singolarmente sulle foglie delle piante nutrici. Sverna come piccola larva. Le larve hanno vita solitaria e si impupano direttamente sulla pianta nutrice.
Maschio: colore arancio con nervature nere, disegno maculare nero e sfumatura basale nera.
Femmina: simile al maschio ma generalmente più grande.
Rovescio: ali anteriori di colore arancio con apice giallognolo macchiato di bruno e disegno maculare nero. Posteriori ampiamente sfumate di violaceo con alcuni spazi discali giallognoli e una serie di grossi punti neri submarginali.
Distribuzione: Alpi
Habitat: margine dei boschi e radure del piano montano da 900 fino a circa 2000 metri s.l.m.
Generazioni annuali: una sola con sfarfallamento degli adulti in luglio.

Description: Areal extended to all the Alps but sporadic and local distribution. The eggs are deposited individually on the leaves of the nutritional plants. Worm like a small larva. The larvae have lonely livelihood and they plunge directly onto the nursing plant.
Male: orange color with black ribs, black macular design and black basal nuances.
Female: Similar to male but generally larger.
Reverse: Orange front with wings of yellowish yellow blob and black macular design. Extensively blurred violet backs with some yellowish discalculated spaces and a series of large black submarginal dots.
Distribution: Alps
Habitat: edge of the forests and clearings of the mountain plan from 900 up to 2000 meters s.l.m.
Annual generations: one with flickering adults in July.

Interesting PoV, and the textures of the wing looks similar to bark of some trees for first sight (for me at least). Very effective shot, also because the well blurred background helps us to concentrate on the butterfly only. Great work!
