Famiglia: Nymphalidae.
Sottofamiglia: Heliconiinae
Lunghezza ala anteriore mm. 18-22
Descrizione: areale esteso a tutte le Alpi ma distribuzione sporadica e localizzata. Le uova sono deposte singolarmente sulle foglie delle piante nutrici. Sverna come piccola larva. Le larve hanno vita solitaria e si impupano direttamente sulla pianta nutrice.
Maschio: colore arancio con nervature nere e disegno maculare nero. Sfumatura basale nerastra nelle ali posteriori.
Femmina: simile al maschio ma generalmente più grande e con colore più chiaro.
Rovescio: ali anteriori di colore arancio con apice giallognolo e disegno maculare nero. Posteriori intensamente sfumate di rosso ruggine. Presente un grosso punto nero entro la cellula. Area basale e fascia discale giallognole frazionate dalla nervature in diversi spazi, alcuni dei quali argentati. Serie di spazi marginali argentati.
Distribuzione: Italia settentrionale
Habitat: specie sciafila, frequenta i margini dei boschi, le radure e i prati acquitrinosi dal piano basale a quello montano fino a circa 1800 metri s.l.m.
Generazioni annuali: due con sfarfallamento degli adulti in maggio-giugno e agosto-settembre. Una sola in luglio ad alta quota.

Front wing length mm. 18-22
Description: area extended to all the Alps but sporadic and localized distribution. The eggs are laid individually on the leaves of the nursing plants. Winter as a small larva. The larvae have a solitary life and pupate directly on the nurse plant.
Male: orange color with black veins and black macular design. Blackish basal gradient in the hind wings.
Female: similar to the male but generally larger and with a lighter color.
Reverse: orange forewings with yellowish apex and black macular pattern. Hindquarters intensely tinged with rust red. There is a large black dot inside the cell. Basal area and yellowish disc band divided by ribs in different spaces, some of them silver. Series of marginal silver spaces.
Distribution: Northern Italy
Habitat: sciafila species, it frequents the margins of woods, clearings and marshy meadows from the basal plane to the mountain one up to about 1800 meters s.l.m.
Annual generations: two with adult flicker in May-June and August-September. Only one in July at high altitude.
