|I took this picture in my garden and hope you like this Fritillary |
Argynnis paphia / Silver-washed Fritillary
Flight Time: June - August
Male is dark orange with black spots and streaks, the female usually a paler orange and lacking the forewing black streaks of scent scales present on the male. Underside of wings mainly olive-green in ground colour with silvery bands on the hind wings.
A widespread fritillary preferring a forest environment. Like many other similar species its caterpillars eat Violets. The Silver washed fritillary lays its eggs on a nearby tree, and the caterpillars make their way to the foodplant when they hatch next Spring.
Crop, sharpened, adjust color, resized to 800 pixels for the site.
I used Adobe Photoshop Elements 2.0
